Second Soundscape
After my first attempt at a soundscape i decided i wanted the second attempt to be a lot heavier sounding than the first, i also decided i wanted the sound itself to have a strong narrative so i could use the narrative in the sound as the basis for the whole film. The whole soundscape is recorded on garage band on my friends mac. I rested the mac on a pillow to try and dampen any vibrations from downstairs and i also turned the input level on the built in microphone very low so i could record loud instruments and sounds without them distorting. I started the composition by recording some low frequency bass notes on a bass that i had tuned down a step. I then experimented with reverb, distortion and delay until i found the perfect combination. As i started to add higher frequency sounds by playing harmonics on the bass guitar through reverb i had the idea of creating a subtle change from low frequency sounds that sound very sinister and dark to nice high frequency sounds that end up sounding quite pretty. To accentuate this i added layered melodica (wind organ) sounds through delay at the same time as changing or fading out the original bass sounds.
You can listen to my second attempt Ive called 'Bass Guitar' here.
