Music Videos By Spike Jonze

Spike Jonze is an American Director that has made three feature length films, various shorts and countless music videos for mainly alternative American indie bands. One of his videos that really stood out to me was the video for the song 'undone (the sweater song)' by weezer.

This video doesn't really have anything to do with the song which is not something that's overly important in music videos. I think it's more important concentrating on capturing the mood and feel of a song in a music video rather than trying to literally interpret it. The video is a simple idea, it's basically just the band playing the song in what looks like slow motion against a striking blue background. The idea was to have the band play the song faster than it is on the record so that it could be slowed down but still be in time. The slowed down footage adds emphasise to the actions they are making whilst playing the song. Around halfway through the video the drummer seems to lose time and smiles and looks around which suddenly makes the video seem a lot less series and it think this is probably down to how difficult it is the play the song perfectly in time but sped up. The introduction of dogs to the video furthers to cement the idea that it's no longer as serious as it seemed to be. This lighthearted touch could well have been an improvised alternative to the original more serious idea when it turned out it was too difficult for the band to play the song.
